Did you know that March 20th is International happiness day?
In 2012, the General Assembly of the United Nations proclaimed this day as International Day of Happiness “recognizing the relevance of happiness and well-being as universal goals and aspirations in the lives of human beings around the world and the importance of their recognition in public policy objectives.”
Being happy should be the human kinds’ ultimate goal. But how do you reach it?
If you are looking to have a happier day with your little one, here are three things that you can do:
1. Get moving!
Dance, walk or do some yoga. Moving gets our bodies feeling great and creates a great set up for the day. The reason why it moving makes us feel so good is because physical activity triggers a release of dopamine (which gives us a sense of temporary pleasure) and serotonin (which creates a long-lasting feeling of happiness or well-being). So get moving! and if you like to dance, you can find some great songs to sing and dance with your kids and our favourite youtube channels here.
2. Connect with friends or family
Whether through a phone call, a coffee date or facetime, take a moment to connect with friends or family members. Studies have shown that connecting with loved ones increases happiness. Take 10 min call to check in on someone you care about!
If you are connecting with grandparents, make sure to read my post on 3 tips for facetiming with grandkids/grandparents.
3. End your day with gratitude.
Writing in a journal about your day is a great practice that can lead to having a feeling happier about your life. Many studies have been done around this subject and show that journaling can improve your mood and give you a greater sense of overall emotional well-being and happiness. It is a simple exercise that pays off tenfold!
If you want to start this practice with your kids, make sure to check out my Mommy and me gratitude journal. And if you want to practice your spanish, don't miss out on getting the "Empieza tu dia con gratitud" Journal I designed for myself and is so simple and quick to use. 5 minutes of gratitude a day will significantly change your life!
